Is mango a unhealthy fruit?

I have been hearing this statement from people that eating lot of mangoes are harmful as the produce excess heat? Then Why does nature itself provide us with magoes in summer? and not in winters? I feel guilty every time I bite into a sweet tasty mango thinking of the heat and cholestrol it would increase?

Is mango a unhealthy fruit?
before we go to the answer, let us clear up some things first;

(1) no fruit is unhealthy, even for diabetics; the common misconception is that sugar is sugar; this is wrong; there are many types of sugars, the one everyone is familiar with is sucrose (any substance ending in "ose" is sugar); fructose is fruit sugar, galactose and lactose are milk sugars, maltose is cereal/malt sugar, etc; it is the refined (white) sugar that is bad - because it is man-made; the best is honey;

(2) about the "heat" from mangoes, you are probably referring to the "warm feeling" that you get when you go overboard on mangoes; it is true; this is because of the high sugar (read: fructose) content; since sugar is the main fuel of the body, an abundance will mean the body goes into overdrive to burn that sugar - hence the warm feeling;

(3) questioning why mangoes (if it produces heat) appear in summer (when it is hot) is the same as questioning why hot chili peppers (and most spices) grow in the tropics; the "heat" the body feels from eating "hot" things make the body sweat, which leads to cooling down the body (as the perspiration evaporates from the skin, except when the humidity is high, then you get a sticky yucky feeling);

and (4) only animals and animal products contain cholesterol; plants and plants products never contain cholesterol; cholesterol is very vital to the body; without it, we (literally) die; cholesterol is vital in the production of enzymes and our hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, etc), the biles from the pancreas and gall bladder to digest the food we eat, the maintain and support the immune system, for cell and tissue repair, and many more; 90% of the cholesterol in our body is produced by the liver (our stomachs are not designed to absorb dietary cholesterol, we can only absorb a maximum of 10% of dietary cholesterol - there are studies to support this);

finally, to the question at hand, go ahead an enjoy mangoes, but if you get that "warm feeling", give it a rest; it's not as if mangoes are in danger of becoming extinct; there will always be more next year; enjoy the mangoes while it lasts;
Reply:The best answer chosen by the asker is a whole lot of bull. Mangoes aren't healthy for diabetics -- so don't go around eating a lot of mangoes and bananas.

What an utter idiot -- GIYF. Report It

Mangoes are not only delicious they are also rich in vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants.

Mangoes are high in fibre but low in calories and sodium.

Mangoes are rich in vitamin A and have good amounts of vitamins B and C as well as Potassium, Calcium and Iron.

We are advised to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Half a mango counts as one portion.
Reply:That's ridiculous. Mangoes don't produce heat and they certainly don't produce cholesterol -- only animal products produce cholesterol, and your body does, too. Some people are allergic to mangoes, but you would know it if you were.
Reply:Combatting the excess heat is easy, jut sit in a bath of icy water whilst you devour your mango/es

Statistically, if a person has her head in the freezer chest and her feet in the fire, she would (on average) be fairly comfortable.
Reply:mango is healthy but over eating mango is not healty. if your are in a suna room the normal suna temperature is not bad for you. but if you increase the temperature it will harm you dear. everything in this world got limit. crossing limit in harmful
Reply:No idea what idiots told you mangoes produce "heat" but it is a pile of rubbish. Mangoes are good for you.

The fruit flesh of a ripe mango contains about 15% sugar, up to 1% protein, and significant amounts of vitamins A, B and C.
Reply:Ghanshya has said that anything excess is harmful. He is correct. Mango is wondereful fruit given to us by God. Eat it in a correct proportion every day.
Reply:There are two version of your statement. One is yes and the other is no. Let us see the no. As you know that excess of everything is bad and like wise if you consume mango in excess of desired quantity it is bad as it produces heat and this leads to dehydration. You must have heared that the Mango is the king of fruits then how come it is bad for health. Now, let us see the bad part of it for the diabetic patient. Mango contains highest sugar and the diabetic patient should not consume mango as the sugar level increases after each and every bite. So it is harmful. As regards heat produced by mango I can only say that when the temprature outside is high people consume mango water i.e unriped mango just to kill the heat. Hence, it is not that harmful as you have thought.
Reply:eating of mangoes??? even i think of that my mouth starts watering .Its true that eating of lot of mangoes produce excess heat,instead of eating them daily u can make them into juice and drink it chilled.If u wanted to eat it u have to eat it in a limit iam sending u my views and u can select the best among all the answers u get byeeeeeeee........
Reply:mango is not an unhealthy fruit. but if u are on a diet u shud avoid a mango as it is sweet. u need not feel guity..if u feel like eating i think u shud go ahead ...as it is said anything done in excess is bad...so i say anything eaten is excess is bad
Reply:hahahaha you will be fine. just dont eat a ton of fruit else your blood sugar levels will go too high.
Reply:Completely disagree with the statement.

I love mangoes and like any other thing if you gobble a lots of mangoes without taking enough curd or buttermilk i hope you would feel the heat literally.

Its summer gal... it comes after a long time and enjoy the fruit without any guilt. Alright..

I am gonna have one right now!
Reply:The mango can be healthy itself, AND healthful for you.
Reply:No it is not unhealthy excess of eating mangoes is producing heat in the body
Reply:Excess of anythin is bad!....
Reply:Nah. It's fine. Drink some refreshing water with your mango I suppose.
