Lately, its been winter and weather is cold, I seem to have these hunger pangs that won't go away. I get so hungry during work that I can't wait till lunch time and run to buy food.
I get hungry again around 6 or 7 and seem to crave for the most fattening food like fast food. What healthy choice do i have to help suppress appetite and not eat so much? It seems like it only happens during winter.
Ive gained alot of weight, like 8 lbs because of the cravings. I always want a full meal and then something sweet.
Please help!!!

Try eating smaller meals more often. Instead of 3 big meals and two snacks. Eat 5-6 mini meals and two snacks. Snacks should be high fiber or protein items like apples or nuts. Also, I was told by a nutritionist that frequent hunger can also be a sign of dehydration. (Who knew ?) So try increasing your water intake if you aren't getting the recommended daily ozs of water. If you are a high caffeine consumer, try decreasing that as well. It's a diuretic.
Also, if this is something new, check with your doctor. Some imbalances like hyperthyroidism can cause extreme hunger.
Reply:protein. peanut butter, nuts, cheese, that kind of stuff, in smallish portions. protein fills you up and keeps you that way longer.
Reply:eat salads their healthy for you so if you do eat a lot you wont gain that much. They are delicious. and they are very filling surprisingly i never once finished a salad and i can eat a lot
Reply:It's hard to suppress my appetite too, but before I start my day I make a point of drinking at least 2 glasses of water. This already gives me the sensation of being full. I still eat a light breakfast full of fiber. Like, whole grain toast w/ a tablespoon of low fat peanut butter. I always carry a lite snack like raisins, cheerios, and maybe a sugar free turtle candy to try and suppress sugar rushes. Try to snack healthy throughout the day and drink water.
Try this for a week: every time you get hungry drink a glass of water. Sometimes your body may just be pretty darn thirsty. Above all things, love yourself!

Reply:Eat food with complex carbohydrates. Anything that will take your body longer to break down and digest. Anything starch, fiber, proteins, anything green. Sugars will get you hyped and then have you bad again.

Reply:i have to agree with peeps and say that fruit is the best thing to eat. i pack an apple or banana everyday for my afternoon snack and that keeps me going through the end of work and the gym until i eat dinner. should work the same way as a morning snack.
also, the best thing you can do is eat smaller meals, but eat more often. that gives your body enough energy to power through the day, but keeps you feeling full!
Reply:Salads are a great start to eat before eating anything else. Or bread works too. And drinking a lot of water before eating has been shown to decrease overeating.
