What is wrong with him?

i have had my male winter white dwarf hamster for 2 weeks and one day. i know that is not a long time, but he should at least be used to me. I hold him quite often and i hand feed him a lot, so he gets used to my hand. i let him watch me feed him. He is only 9 weeks old. today i wanted to get him out and he ran into a corner and when i tried to get him, he hissed and bit my finger so hard it made it bleed. i disinfected it and washed the cut out, but i just don't understand. why does he run away when he knows i am not going to hurt him. i also have a male syrian and he is very sweet and loves me. so i have experience with hamsters. is there any way i can prevent being bitten again, or does he just need more time to get used to me?

Dwarf hamsters are more for people who enjoy observing them. They're not always interested in human interaction. They do make wonderful pets, they can be very humorous.

Give him time, he'll eventually put up with being held. Try to offer him vegetables(never fruits or anything with sugar, dwarves are prone to diabetes) in your hand.
Reply:Allow him more time. It might take a month or so for him to be completely used to you. Just let him sniff your hand, but don't pick him up. Let him sit on your hand and eat.

These are a couple sites to tell you how to tame him.

Hope I helped!!
Reply:my hamster did that once- i think you have to be careful not to scare them- try not to put your hand above him %26amp; make sure he's fully awake. If they are unsure of your scent, then they will try to defend themselves.

Also, he might need a little more time to get used to you :)

You could try sitting in an empty bath and letting him sniff you- i have done this with all my hamsters in the past %26amp; now they are all tame :D

hope this helps :)
