What does this poem mean?

The poem is Ode on Solitude by Alexander Pope-

Happy the man, whose wish and care

A few paternal acres bound,

Content to breathe his native air,

In his own ground.

Whose heards with milk, whose fields with bread,

Whose flocks supply him with attire,

Whose trees in summer yield him shade,

In winter fire.

Blest! who can unconcern'dly find

Hours, days, and years slide soft away,

In health of body, peace of mind,

Quiet by day,

Sound sleep by night; study and ease

Together mix'd; sweet recreation,

And innocence, which most does please,

With meditation.

Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;

Thus unlamented let me dye;

Steal from the world, and not a stone

Tell where I lye.

What does this poem mean?
To me it translates

1. Peace and comfort of being self sufficient

2. Dependent only on God and Nature

3. Loneliness in heart but full in soul
Reply:This a poem is about a man who is happy with himself, who he is and where he is.
Reply:erm, it's about the joys of solitude. The ease of living without being held accountable by someone else or having the need to worry about 'urban' concerns. Very pastoral. Happiness, according to Pope, lies at the mercy of our subject in the poem. He decides on his own ground what is and isn't good. As long as he/she can be content sustaining themselves and find pleasure in the natural world around them (i.e. solitude from others) than they will experience happiness, knowing that even after death he is free from the attention, bustle and worry of others. That's my guess.
Reply:Some how I believe this relates to native americans. nice
Reply:It is about a man who is content not to be famous or popular among friends. He finds his happiness within himself and doesn't need reassurance from others (as most of us do). He lives his life and is actually fulfilled - not lonely, not bored. This poem is anti-society and totally goes against everything we have been socialized to feel. We need friends to reassure us of our own being and people in our lives are what gives our lives meaning. This man needs nothing from anyone. He gets meaning from himself and his own happiness and contentment around him.
Reply:Someone who is happy with their life, comforted by nature, and enjoys the simple things. Some one who doesn't need to live a legendary life in order for it to be worthwhile. Its a good way to be.
Reply:isnt it about a man who is at the mercy of another???
