i have a nine year old shetland pony that i have had for seven years.. he has always been field kept but throughout winter, when it rains he shakes.. shetlands are suppose to have two coats.. his isnt very thick.. hes ichy most of the year but has never suffered with sweet itch and has only become itchy the last couple of years.. hes happy and active and only shakes when his coat is wet.. but iv never heard of other shetlands doing this.. i really dont want to have to put a rug on him..
does anyone have any tips on helping his coat condition? or any ideas why he shakes if this isnt why?
please help.. i love him so much.. it hurts me to see him not 100%.. ={
Why does my shetland shake?
Like people, the older animals get the more they suffer from the same things we do like unsteadiness, weaker immune system, bad skin, ect. I know fish oil is really good for skin and hair, this could help improve his itchiness. Diet is also very important for skin and coat. Make sure he has a good balanced diet... no cheap food as they lack nutrients that are necessary.
