I've been on a healthy diet with lean meat, vegetables, fruits, skim milk, etc. I've stopped eating processed foods that contain high fructose corn syrup hydrogenated oil, etc. I've even stopped eating fast food. I lost a few pounds over the winter break. However, the spring semester has started and I find myself eating quick and easy food again. I'm a college student and I don't have time to prepare meals. I just bought a banana nut muffin today and feel guilty. Does anyone have any tips for a college student? Also, I still exercise. (3-4 times a week doing cardio)
It wasn't from starbucks, but their muffins are around 400-500 calories. So, I'm guessing the banana nut muffin I ate today was about 400 calories or even more? It was so moist and sweet.

Calories in a banana nut muffin? Diet tips for a student?
If you fancy a banana nut muffin, BUY SOME BANANAS AND NUTS.
You'll spend less money, and you'll get much MORE nutrition and LESS muffin (which is the unhealthy bit).
If the muffins DO get you occasionally, DON'T feel guilty. Let the 'calories' (energy) energise you, and power some extra activities (try a martial art, to make you more powerful and confident).
If you haven't got a bike, get one, and find some safe routes between the places you regularly go. By commuting this way, you can use the power of the nuts and bananas (and occasionally muffin-power) to shift your butt around town. If you keep it up for the whole semester (don't let weather put you off), you'll rebuild that butt into a strong and sexy asset.
PS
Most 'cardio' exercise won't shift belly fat, because it concentrates the work on the largest muscles (buttocks, thighs) in order to promote the maximum blood flow.
All exercise is 'SPECIFIC'.
That means you'll have to work specifically on your abdomen if you want to take fat off it. Gentle, long-duration activity is what burns fat (vigorous, tiring exercises only burn extra sugar), so you need to find activities that 'wag' and 'wiggle' your waist about a lot.
Salsa %26amp; Bellydancing, Capoeira, and walking like Mae West, all use a lot of different abdominal muscles, and 'mobilise' your waist in a way that will prevent fat from being stored there as well as stimulating the release of fat that's already stored. Any 'core-supported' activity (like kayaking, skating, or Martial Arts) will help to keep these muscles active for long periods.
(Avoid doing too many situps and crunches; they 'concentrate' the effort onto a small part of these muscles, so they won't help you to lose much fat.)
Reply:Muffins do have a lot of calories and not much nutritional value. However, if you work out and eat healthy then there is nothing wrong with a little treat every now and again.
Reply:You dont need to diet.. you sound tiny. Keep up the exercise and eat what you want!
