he is a winter white hamster. yes i got him only 2 days ago and he needs to get used to me, and i know that he has to be handled every day. he has a fairly large cage for a dwarf hamster, so it is really hard to catch him. and plus he is only like 7 or 8weeks old so he is small. he sleeps in a corner of his cage under the bedding, and when i try to catch him so i can hold him, he goes in that corner and makes a hissing sound. He is actually very sweet, he doesn't bite (he occasionally nibbles) and he likes it when i hold him. (when i can catch him!) why does he hiss? is it because he is stuck in a corner when i try to get him? i don't mean to scare him, i already have a syrian hamster named scribbles and he is just the sweetest thing. he has NEVER bit or hissed at me. thank you in advance!
My hamster hisses at me?
i didn't even know hamsters can hiss!
i have a winter white hamster aswell, and three robos.
my winter white sleeps under his wheel, in the corner of his cage all the time. they like to feel secure. so that's normal.
i would just let him get used to your scent.
try luring him with treats in your hand, to trust you a bit more.
when i first got my winter white he wouldn't let me pick him up.
i taught him to go into this yellow container in his cage when he wants to be let out. :D
good luck!

Reply:my four year old sister hisses at me?
Reply:he is probably scared of being cornered. I had 2 cambell hamsters and when they had fights they used to hiss.so it could also be saying hey this is my territory. he will probably stop it when he accepts that you ara sorta part of his family.
Reply:let him get used to the habitat
Reply:if u want to stop ur hamster frm hissing at u so when u want to hold him dont just zoom in and catch it approach it nicely and calmly so that it feels that ur hands are safe and wont harm it try doing this procedure about twice daily for 4 to 5 days automaticly it will stop hissing and nibbling
Reply:its a new place so he just needs to get to know you more and when he gets to know you he wont hiss
Reply:Let it get used to it cage a little bit. Your hamster doesn't know you yet. After about a week, the hissing will go away. And your hamster is real young. So right now he thinks that your like his enemy.
Reply:poor hammy! he is still afraid of you! He hisses as a sign that he ' s afraid. give him some time :)
Reply:i think it may be a really small cat
